Starlight Community Youth Theater was honored with three AriZoni Theatre Awards of Excellence (ZONI) at the awards ceremony on Sept. 29 at the Herberger Theater. The awards include the coveted Overall Best Children’s Musical for last season’s production of “Once On This Island”. Other individual award winners for the same production include Anthem resident Sherry Henderson for Best Choreography, and Rachael Killeen for Best Guest Actor.
Accepting the Overall award for Starlight was co-founder and executive director Mark Oesterle. “Starlight received a thrilling 15 nominations this year, which is a huge honor in itself, but to win three awards in just our third year is incredible,” said Oesterle.
Starlight Community Theater kicked off its fourth season with the popular musical revue The Taffetas, which ran Oct 3 – 12 at their new venue at the Outlets at Anthem. In November, Starlight Community Youth Theater presents the Broadway hit Oliver. For more information, visit http://www.starlightcommunitytheater.org/.
The AriZoni Theatre Awards is a not-for-profit organization devoted to promoting the visibility and growth of theatre in the Valley of the Sun & Maricopa County. Each year at its annual awards ceremony, the Board bestows an outstanding contribution award and a distinguished service award to deserving individuals or organizations for their contributions to theatre. Most importantly, after completion of an exhaustive judging process, involving close to 100 judges, awards of excellence are presented to those individuals who have excelled in performance and production during the just-completed season. These awards represent true celebrations of excellence in theatre.
